Background
Engineered Construction and Maintenance Pty Ltd is a small multi disciplined construction company currently based in Karratha. It trades under the name of ECM . In their web page, ECM portrays itself as a multi-disciplined contractor with metal trade bias. Since it was formed in October 2000, it has undertaken project management and direct construction roles for a variety of customers.
The situation as at july 2007 is that it has a healthy local engineering business and a number of small projects to its credit. This has been further enhanced by larger projects including particularly challenging work on Varanus Island and at Cape Lambert. ECM also has a steady trade in various maintenance situations.
It has aspirations and the wherewithal to take on small capital projects that involve engineering design, procurement and construction, with the emphasis on metal trades and marine work.
The company is intending to grow in the Pilbara region and has also completed work in other regions. The intention is that by reputation, it will take a trusted and respected position in the industry. The tendency will be to grow into the marine and offshore areas whilst maintaining a strong Karratha presence in existing fields of work.
ECM has embarked on a strategy of growing into other regions in a careful manner which has included the opening of a Perth office and commencing the tendering of work outside the region.
The Position ; Estimator/Project Administrator
Given the agenda of growth. ECM requires an experienced administrator to estimate minor project works, which for the most part involves steel fabrication, but often includes other disciplines including marine work. Experience in these other areas is preferred but not essential. The role can be part of a mentoring / training situation under the MD. The role will also require some project administration and management. A good grounding in nearly all disciplines is desirable but not essential. Ideally, the individual should have good client skills and understanding of contracts and tendering.
The position is in our Perth office in East Victoria Park, with occasional travel to Karratha. Most of this work will be under the guidance and supervision of the MD.
The role may also suit someone with a desire to work reduced hours and remain Perth based. It can be part time or full time depending on applicants circumstances.
This will entail, among other things
- Estimating of work.
- Obtaining prices from subcontractors
- Preparation of tender submission documents
- Project Scheduling
- Procedure development
- Some site supervision ( not essential)
- Project contract administration and invoicing
- Project administration
The position will be based in Perth, with occasional travel to Karratha.
The person being sought will need to have at least 10 years experience in the construction and maintenance industry, preferably in the mining, marine and oil industries. The individual must be able to achieve and maintain the respect of clients and employees and uphold its ethics of business integrity, honesty and reliability.
The applicant will probably have an engineering or trade back ground. It may also suit a semi retiree.
Work hours can vary depending on circumstances.
